Melissa Winthers is an outstanding personal injury attorney and partner of Shapiro Winthers & McGraw P.C., a firm representing clients in Colorado for over 25 years. A Colorado native, Melissa graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Colorado College in 1995 and from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1998. Since that time, she has dedicated herself to fighting on behalf of those who have suffered traumatic and life-changing injuries.
Melissa is ranked in the top 50 women attorneys in Colorado, and the top 100 attorneys overall by Super Lawyers®. Her representation has resulted in numerous multi-million-dollar resolutions for her clients, and she attributes a great deal of her success to perseverance and extensive preparation. Melissa was raised by a single mother and learned the value of a strong work ethic from an early age. As an attorney, she stands with her clients every step of the journey.
The accolades Melissa counts among her accomplishments are well-deserved, but what sets her apart as a lawyer are the relationships she develops with her clients. Melissa works to understand her clients’ unique needs, including the medical and personal, because she is passionate about providing assistance to real people in real times of need. She understands the importance of personally interviewing clients’ family, friends, co-workers, and physicians regarding how her clients’ injuries have impacted all facets of their lives and the lives of their loved ones, including critical topics such as permanency, future life care needs, lost earnings and lost earning capacity. She works to give a voice back to those who feel overpowered and overwhelmed by insurance companies.
While Melissa’s work is defined by the relationships she develops with clients, her ethics, compassion, and honesty have been routinely noted as well. She is the kind of attorney you recommend to your family and friends because she is authentic and genuinely cares about you and your case. Melissa is also active in the community, supporting organizations that help individuals and their families recover after serious injury. She has served as the past President of the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado, is a board member of the Chanda Plan Foundation, and previously was a board member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA). Melissa has authored numerous medical-legal articles, regularly speaks at medical and legal seminars that pertain to brain injuries and traumatic neck and back injuries, and has also worked on professional development for attorneys through the CTLA.
She is licensed to practice before the Colorado Supreme Court and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. In her free time, Melissa enjoys camping in the national parks with her husband, daughter and their dog.
